About GROW! Community Garden

We connect people in our community by providing a place to engage mind and body in nature and organic gardening. We are an inclusive group that values the enthusiasm and experience of people of all ages and skill levels.

Our VISION for the FUTURE...

  • Construct a 24’x24’ pavilion for shelter, gardener education lectures, and social events
  • Expand our garden space to accommodate more community gardeners

GROW! is a community-wide effort to promote and support gardening in Manitowish Waters. While the concept of a community garden in Manitowish Waters was raised earlier, in 2018 a founding member visited several community gardens in Vilas County. Energized by those visits, a steering committee was formed and planning began in earnest.

In September of 2018, the MW Town Board approved a garden site at the Community Center/Airport complex. The (approximate) half-acre parcel is located between the tennis courts and airport terminal. Three phases of development were/are planned. Through the tireless efforts of a group of enthusiastic volunteers, Phase I of a three-phase plan will be completed in early summer with the construction of a garden shed.

GROW! Community Gardeners of Manitowish Waters, Inc. is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization focused on offering an accessible gardening venue and camaraderie to individuals and groups in our community. No taxpayer dollars will have been used for this project. All costs are being covered by donations and nominal garden plot fees.

The members of the Manitowish Waters Steering Committee are indebted to a Master Gardener from Watersmeet, Michigan and the leadership teams of the Presque Isle and Land O’Lakes Community Gardens. Their collective mentorship, encouragement, and unselfish sharing of information was and continues to be invaluable.

As this exciting and ambitious journey continues, sponsorship and broad community support is essential in the form of donations, materials, and volunteer participation.
